Saxon Rd, Steyning

A garden for a young family. Space was needed for the kids to play and also for adults to sit, relax and entertain friends and family too. To make the best use of the space an angular design was created which enabled the garden to retain a large lawn area, while not compromising on the depth of the planting borders which helped to balance out the open areas of lawn and the large terrace. The soft and informal planting around the main paved area provides a cosy feel with seasonal interest to keep the garden looking great all year round.

“We first approached Alex after finishing the renovation of our house and were faced with a much neglected garden that bore the scars of major works to the house. We immediately liked Alex due to his friendly and approachable manor. He wasn’t put off by our minimal horticultural knowledge or a desire for a beautiful garden with minimal maintenance! We knew we had made the right decision from the first draft drawings as he had come up with a way to transform a large but bland large rectangle into a contemporary stylish garden with all the elements of the country garden that so appealed to us. All the way through the design process he welcomed our input – however minimal or useless – and was always happy to accommodate our requests – even for the more eccentric ideas of a massive stone firepit in one corner. He worked with us to complete the garden in time and on budget. Our decision to employ a garden designer, rather than just ‘wing it’ has paid dividends year after year as the garden continues to stun us with its loveliness and even in the bleakest of winter days we still look out and think – what a lovely garden. See it in full bloom on a sunny day and it is a thing of pure beauty and joy.”
